The Sierra College Veteran Student Alliance is a nonprofit group of highly motivated veterans, family and friends looking to serve the veteran population.  The club consists of a number of board members who meet and make the decisions for the organization as a team. VSA aims to create a sense of camaraderie and support veterans with any issues that may arise. New members are welcomed by warm hearts and acceptance. The Veteran Student Alliance holds weekly meetings to insure that everything is running smoothly and to initiate goals and events to continue the organization’s momentum.

Boots to Books, Veterans Receive Additional Funding

Sierra College

 has an outstanding

program for veterans and their famlies. It is called “Boots 2 Books” and

it offers a learning community class

designed to help veterans create success

in college, life and career. The

goals are to assist veterans in transitioning

from military to college and

beyond, and develop a sense of camaraderie

among other veteran students

and faculty. Subjects covered include

discovering college and veteran resources,

an English A course, goal

setting, communication and stress

reduction techniques, combat stress

injuries, critical thinking, time management,

increased self-awareness,

and study skill strategies.

With the recent increase in the GI Bill

funding, more funding is available to the

veterans. More information about Chapter

33 (the new, Post 9/11 GI Bill) can be found

at www.gibill2008.org/faq.html.

Michelle Johnson and Catherine Morris are
